Painting with Balloons (Just like Princess Diaries!)

I've been feeling crafty lately and wanted to give this a try. I was at Wal-mart with my boyfriend getting supplies for a different pin we are doing this weekend when I thought oh what the heck I'll give this a try too. I LOVED IT! It was *extremely* messy but really really fun!!

Here's what you'll need:

1. Paint
2. Canvas
3. Balloons
4. Pins

I had a bunch of extra paint laying around so I just used that...I even had some glitter paint which looked awesome. I got a pack of 30 balloons for 97 cents so that was pretty cheap too. My canvases were a 2 pack an cost $9.97 but I'm sure if you just got one it would be less expensive. I also used some of my sewing pins because I have a ton of extra.

I grabbed our rug from in front of the door because it's old and dirty and used that to catch any paint as I filled up the balloons...then I started filling. All you do is *carefully* squeeze the paint into the balloon using as much or as little as you'd like then blow up the balloon to your desired size and pin it to the canvas. I had a lot of trouble getting my pins to stick and had to re-adjust the balloons once I brought everything outside to start the fun part! But really, it's as simple as that. Fill, pin, pop!

Here is what it looked like when I was about ready to start popping:

I just realized seeing the picture now that I definitely put the canvas upside down from how I wanted it, but it really doesn't matter. Re-adjust any balloons as necessary, being careful not to accidentally pop them.

Now the fun starts! Make sure you have on old clothes or clothes you don't care about or maybe a white t-shirt that you can save forever because you will be COVERED in paint! No joke.
In the movie, The Princess Diaries, they threw darts at the balloons but I'm not that fancy and just popped mine with pins...attempting (but failing) to stand a reasonable distance away.

And here is how it turned out:

But, I had a few balloons left over and wasn't ready to stop all the fun so I filled up the rest of the balloons with a few colors of paint per balloon and popped them one by one so I could kind of control where the paint would splatter. And here is the final outcome:

It was a lot of fun but really messy. I had balloons fall and pop in my face...I had balloons not want to inflate, resulting in a blue mouth...I had paint EVERYWHERE! But it was awesome. Do it!
